Ethel Elaine Gray, 62, was born on July 11, 1951, in Williamsburg and departed this life on Thursday Sept. 26th, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer at the UK Markey Cancer Center, Lexington. Elaine is the daughter of Geneva Smith Palmer, of Lexington, and the late Thomas W. Palmer. She was a 1970 graduate of Bryan Station High school, an alumni of Midway College and Cameron University. She was a dedicated nurse for 37 years. She retired after 26 years of service with the VA Medical Center on Cooper Dr. as a CCRN. Her dedication, loyalty and sense of humor will be missed by the Veterans and her co-workers. Elaine loved spending her free time doing arts and crafts, scrapbooking and genealogy. Her one true passion was traveling to explore new sites and cultures.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her son, Daniel W. Gray, Owingsville; sister, Carolyn Jean Slaven, Lexington; grandson, Alexander D. Gray, Louisville; niece, Sondra Leet (Jeff), Lexington; nephew, Ronnie H. Slaven Jr. (Alyssa), Kapaau, Hawaii; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many close cousins and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will cherish her memory forever.
Visitation will be Saturday Sept. 28th, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Rd. in Lexington. Additional services will be held on Monday, Sept. 30th, in Williamsburg at Croley Funeral Home.
Visitation at 11 a.m. and funeral services at 1 p.m. will be conducted by the Rev. Billy Mitchell. Burial to follow at Rains Cemetery.
