William J. Griffith (Bill), 82, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, surrounded by his loving wife, children and family in The Heritage Physical Rehabilitation Facility, Corbin. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a retired life insurance district manager of 43 years employed by Kentucky Central Life Insurance and Liberty Insurance. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Corbin. He served as a volunteer tax preparer for KCEOC, Gray, for 11 years and was a member of the Oleika Masonic Temple of Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, James J. Griffith; parents, Enoch and Susie T. Griffith; brother, Franklin D. Griffith; sister, Eula G. Miracle; nephew, William C. Miracle; sisters-in-law, Dotie Griffith, Mary Lil Griffith and Joan Lyke; brothers-in-law, Rufus Miracle, Vealor Logan, Bobby Martin, Leonard Prince, Jack Morris and Bob Hettich.
He is survived by his loving and adoring wife of 55 years, Mary C. Griffith, of Corbin; son and daughter-in-law, William J. Griffith (Jeff) and Gail, of Cochran, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Arnold Prewitt, of Wilmore; grandchildren, Lauren (Jesse) Mercado, Emery (Beau) Weathers, Clay Cunliffe, Austin Cunliffe, Hannah Griffith, Claire Griffith, J.T. Prewitt, Justin Prewitt and Anna Gillingham; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Logan and Sallie (Wayne) Hollifield; brother, Lowell T. (Faye) Griffith; sisters-in law, Betty Hettich, Frances Carpenter and Shirley Oakley; brother-in-law, Leslie Martin Jr. (Joyce); numerous beloved nieces and nephews and countless friends, all to mourn his passing.
Bill’s family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, First Baptist Church, Corbin. Funeral services will be conducted in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul M. Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery, Williamsburg, with military rites by the D.A.V. Posts 158 and 66. Pallbearers will be William Cunliffe, Austin Cunliffe, Jimmy Prewitt, Justin Prewitt, Robert Mackey and M.A. Logan. Honorary pallbearers are Lauren Mercado, Emery Weathers, Hannah Griffith, Claire Griffith and Anna Gillingham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund (401 North Laurel Avenue Corbin, KY 40701) or to a charity of choice.
