Charles Vanover Sr.

CORBIN — Charles Vanover Sr., of Raleigh, N.C., and formerly of Williamsburg, departed this life on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his home. He was 95 years, 8 months and 11 days of age. He was born on Aug. 8, 1918, in Whitley County, to the late Finley Vanover and Sylvia Mae Edmonds Vanover.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Broyles Vanover, and a son, Charles Vanover Jr. He was a veteran of the United States Army Having served during World War II and Korea.

He is survived by his two granddaughters, Christine Spencer (Lee), of Garner, N.C,, and Susan Vanover-Kingdon (Christopher), of Long Branch, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Virginia Vanover, of Raleigh, N.C.; one great-grandchild, Olivia Spencer, of Garner, N.C.; two brothers, W.F. Vanover (Gerri), of Williamsburg, and Bob Vanover, of Texas; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

Visitation will be from noon until the funeral hour on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Croley Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerome McCullah officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Davis Addition of Highland Park Cemetery in Williamsburg.  Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 88 of Corbin.
