Debbie Anders

CORBIN — Debbie S. Anders, age 104, of Corbin, passed away Wednesday morning, June 19, 2013, at Christian Health Center.

She was a life-long member of 17th Street Christian Church where she taught Bible school for many years.

Born on the fourth of July 1908, she was called a “firecracker.” Bursting for love for her family and friends, she spent her life “mothering” others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Anders; parents, William Frank and Flora Smith; a very special niece and care-giver, Terri Dixon; siblings, Mae Mullins, Raymond Smith, Hoyt Smith, Gladys Shotwell, Eugene Smith and Lila Geneva Smith; nephew, Harold Dean Shotwell; and nieces, Cheryl Smith and Betty Jean Smith.

Survivors include one brother, W. Lumer “Tubby” Smith, of Corbin; and nieces and nephews, June Skeen, Bill Mullins, Jerry Mullins, Sue Walker, Ernest Smith, Billy Smith, William (Bill) Shotwell, Peggy Farris, Debbie Kay Poynter, Phyllis Riley, Janice Hoskins, Dan Smith, Ailleen Sasser, Jackie Smith and Sandy Hunt.

Aunt Debbie, as she is fondly remembered, leaves behind other great nieces and nephews as well as the staff at Christian Health Care, including a very special nurse, Lucy Taylor, all to mourn her passing.

Although she did not bear children, Aunt Debbie participated in the up-bringing and care of her grateful nieces and nephews and all of their children. Her devotion extended throughout four generations. Love for her family and for God was evident in all that she did. Each summer as Vacation Bible School was planned, Aunt Debbie would beam with delight because she knew she would once again get to be with her “children.”

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lonnie Poynter officiating. Burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master St., Corbin, is in charge of arrangements.
