Hugh Everett Shelton, of Greenbrier, Tenn. and formerly of Siler, departed this life on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the home of George Peace. He was 65 years, 9 months, and 27 days of age. He was born on Aug. 28, 1947, in Whitley County, to Henry Shelton and Gladys Mae Powers. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Shelton; his stepfather, Hobert Manes; and his baby son, Seth Shelton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of Greenfield Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Taffy Peace Shelton, of Greenbrier, Tenn.; three daughters, Heather Woowine, of Greenbrier, Tenn., Angie Dorris (Landon), of New Johnsonville, Tenn., and Lisa Osborne, of Springfield, Tenn.; one son, Heath Shelton (Michele), of Knoxville, Tenn.; his mother, Gladys Manes, of Corbin; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Bobby Shelton, of Delta, Ohio, Tommy Manes, of Williamsburg, Ronnie Manes, of Canadatown, Johnny Manes, of London, and Randy Manes, of Faber; one sister, Misty Newby, of Lily; his father-in-law, the Rev. George Peace, of Siler; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Poplar Creek Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Poplar Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Murphy Buell officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Peace Cemetery following Military Graveside Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #88 of Corbin.
