Corbin Pennington Sr.

CORBIN — Corbin Pennington Sr., 100, of Corbin passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at Baptist Health Corbin with his loving family by his side.

Born in Leslie County Dec. 14, 1912, to Eli and Virginia Baker Pennington, Corbin worked hard throughout his life. Among his many occupations, he was a coal miner, a logger, a postmaster, and a country general store owner.  He often delivered groceries to his customers. After retirement he enjoyed gardening and sharing his delicious vegetables with his friends and neighbors.

A member of the Keavy Church of Christ, he was a song leader for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 42 years, Alpha Turner Pennington, daughter Pauline Lewis, daughter-in-law Alafair Pennington, three brothers and five sisters.

His survivors include his five children and their spouses:  Shirley Farley and James, Mollie Baker and Ebb, Orie Pennington, Corbin Pennington Jr., and Donna Mathews and Bill; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Also, he leaves behind to mourn his passing other family members and a host of friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Brown, Bro. Don Stidham, and Bro. Mark Tabata officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master St., Corbin.
