Barbara Bates


Barbara Nancy Jane Cox Bates,  64,  of Corbin, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Baptist Health Corbin. She was the beloved wife of George Isaac Bates Sr.  for 49 years, 5 months, 4 weeks, and 1 day before going to Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William David Cox and Rosa Evelyne Sharp Cox, of Jellico, Tenn.; brother, William David Cox Jr.; sister, Dorothy  Hyslope; and a host of friends and loved ones who will be waiting with Jesus to greet her.

She is survived by her  husband,  George Isaac Bates Sr.;   her children: Dinah Bates Smith  and husband Charles,   George Bates Jr.  and wife Lisa,  Rosia Bates Wilson and husband Jerry,  and Garry Bates and wife Felicia,  all of Corbin; grandchildren: Sarah Jane Bates,  Chasity Elaine Vanderpool  and husband Travis,   Kristan Nicole Wilson,  George Isaac Bates III,  Catherine Barbara Smith,  Garry Isaac Bates, Jr., Kizzie Faye  Wilson,  Kristien Lee Ann Woolum  and husband Christian;  great-grandchildren: Sadie Grace Olivia Vanderpool,  Noah Isaac Lee Vanderpool, Makinley Rose Barbara Vanderpool,  Gabriel Anthony Isaac Wilson;  siblings: Mary Jo Rowe  and husband Roy,  Evelyn Cheek,  Martha Lemaster  and husband Sam, James Cox,  and   George Earl Cox and wife Mary.

Serving as pallbearers will be Charles W. Smith Jr., Travis Vanderpool, Jerry Wilson, Bill Brock, Christian Woolum, and Quentin Broughton.  Honorary pallbearers are  George Bates III, Garry Bates Jr., and Mike Noe.

Visitation will be from noon Tuesday, April 2, 2013,  until the funeral at 2 p.m. at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the McFarland Cemetery in West Corbin.
