Opal Lee Hammons, 88, of Corbin, passed away at Oak Tree Hospital on Monday, May 6, 2013. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mallie Hart; her husband, Coy B. Hammons; and family, Wilma Jean (Hammons) Elliott, James “Jimbo” Hammons, Patricia (Hammons) Wood and Donnie Elliott.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis (Hammons) Holt, Johnny Hammons and wife Penny, Brenda (Hammons) Huff and husband Greg, and Debbie (Hammons) Tipton and husband Jeff. She was the proud grandmother of 16, great-grandmother of 22, and great-great grandmother of three.
Opal lived a wonderful life full of happiness and love. She was able to experience things with her children and grandchildren that most people dream of. She enjoyed countless high school and college graduations, ball games, choir concerts and weddings. She was very proud of her family.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Max Cox and the Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers include Paul Reynolds, James Reynolds, Rodney Wood, Aaron Huff, Dr. Johnny B. Hammons, Travis Hammons and Ethan Holt.
