Marie Rowland

CORBIN — Marie Rowland, of Williamsburg, departed this life on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Jellico Community Hospital in Jellico, Tenn. She was 84 years, 5 months and 9 days of age. She was born on Oct. 10, 1929, in Knox County, to the late Lewis and Lillie Collins Shupe.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jr. Rowland; son, Bobby Ray Rowland; and brother, Albert Shupe.

She was a member of West Corbin Baptist Church, knew Jesus as her Savior, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a cook for Bell-Whitley Head Start Program and a school bus driver and cook for the Whitley County Board of Education. She was affectionately known as the short, cute, white-haired one by her Facebook friends and touched many lives with her unconditional love and contagious smile.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Newman, Georgia “Cookie” Bledsoe and husband Norman, JoAnne Roberts and husband Donnie, all of Williamsburg; one son, Jimmy Rowland, of Burnside; seven grandchildren, Cody Newman (Paula), Dona Bledsoe, Greg Bledsoe (Katie), Matthew Newman (Michelle), Daron Roberts (Wendy), Rob Bledsoe (Ericka) and Jennifer Harrison (Sonny); 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Smith and Pastor Greg Bledsoe officiating. She will be laid to rest in the New Zion Cemetery.

Pallbearers: grandsons, Cody Newman, Greg Bledsoe, Matthew Newman, Daron Roberts, Rob Bledsoe, and Ray Lanham.
