Chester L. Bryant, 91, of Corbin and formerly of Kingtown in Knox County, was born on April 21, 1922, at Bryants Store in Knox County. He was the son of the late John “Dad” Bryant and Ollie Powers Bryant. Chester died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at the Baptist Health Center in Corbin. He was a member of the Old Poplar Creek Baptist Church. Chester was the Grippo Distributor for the surrounding counties before retiring. On June 2, 1950, he united in marriage to Roberta Jackson who preceded him in death. On Oct. 1, 1971, he united in marriage to Arlone Davis who also preceded him in death. A son, Chester Lee Bryant Jr., and a granddaughter, Amanda Beth Landrum, also preceded Chester in death.
Chester is survived by his son, Kenneth Wayne Bryant and wife, Vickie of The Villages, Florida; daughters; Joyce A. Landrum, of Corbin; Debbie Gray, of Bimble and Tammy Swafford and husband, Bill, of Barbourville; his grandchildren; Donald Brent Gray, Bradley William Swafford and Krista Lee Landrum and many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Chester L. Bryant will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, with the Rev. Ron Pledger and the Rev. Terry Broughton officiating. Burial will follow at the Bryant Cemetery at Little Poplar Creek in Knox County with Carley Abner, Steve Abner, Mark Abner, Bryan Gamblin, Rick Gamblin, Ted Hampton, Robert Tolliver and Robert Prevatte serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Junior McKeehan and his Blue Grass Pickers.
The Bryant family would like to extend a special thank you to the Knox County Home Health Staff for taking such good care of Chester.
Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour today (Monday).
