Gary Williams

CORBIN — Gary Douglas Williams, 69, of Corbin, surrounded by his loving family, passed away to his heavenly home on Friday, July 11, 2014. He was the son of the late Edward Lee and Lula Mae Williams, of Woodbine.

He graduated from Woodbine High School and attended Cumberland College, Louisiana State University and the University of Tennessee to pursue his teaching degree and master’s of education. He then returned to his hometown to teach math at Corbin High School to be close to his family. He had a love for math and science and aspired to be an engineer. He enjoyed several hobbies including computer science, tennis and rebuilding exotic and foreign cars.

He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as secretary, Sunday school teacher and church bus driver.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Joan Williams, his son, Gary Lee Williams (Shantana), grandson, Hunter Williams, his brothers, Edward Williams Jr. (Veronica) and Harry Williams (Carolyn), his sisters, Eula Whitehouse, Ramona Ludwig (Paul), and Beatrice Ely and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lula Williams, his brothers, Euless Williams and Owen Williams, and his sister, Shirley Williams McCowan.

A memorial service will be hld at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, 96 Calvary Church Road, Corbin, KY 40701, with Pastor Kevin Roach officiating. Corbin Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online at or mailed to the church in care of Gary Williams.
