Ms. Loraine Bailey, 74, of Corbin, formerly of Loyall, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at her home. She was a daughter of the late Oscar John and Georgia Shoupe Bailey born on July 25, 1939 at Bledsoe.
Loraine was in the Loyall High School graduating class of 1958. She attended college, studying chemistry and psychology and then entered public service. She was employed by the Department of Human Resources, later by the federal government for more than 15 years and then managed commercial property in Lexington. She was a dedicated and honest worker.
She had many interests. She was an accomplished cook and after she retired she loved to write and illustrate children’s books, paint and plant gardens. She was a loving, intelligent and practical mother who fostered a love of reading and imagination. She was deeply loved and respected.
She united in marriage with Max Dale Yount and to this union a son was born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Stewart.
Survivors include her children, Thryall Steven Cantrell, of Colorado, Charles Alan Cantrell, of Minnesota, and Miles Patrick Yount, of Barbourville; three sisters, Sandra Rhodes, of Chicago, Ill., Martha Johnson, of Corbin, and Omega Burnette, of Williamsburg; three brothers, Oscar John Bailey Jr., of New Mexico, Miciah Bailey, of Williamsburg, and Clifford Bailey, of Louisville; several grandchildren; a great-grandchild expected to arrive soon; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Turner officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Pine Hill Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday after 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.
