Edythe Virginia Edwards Wise, 91, of Shelbyville, formerly of Corbin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, in Shelbyville.
She was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Ashland, to the late Jack and Dora Nevels Edwards.
She was a member of Beechmont Methodist Church of Shelbyville, and a member of Southern Star Chapel 154 of the Eastern Star in Louisville.
She began working at the Methodist Evangelical Hospital in Louisville when it open in 1960. At the time of her retirement, she was director of admissions. After retirement, Edythe moved to Shelbyville where she was active in her church and her community volunteer. She had a special interest in animal welfare and gave devoted care to her animal companions.
Edythe is survived by Doug and Lena Lear and family who knew her as “Granny Wise,” and also her first cousin, the Rev. Robert Lockhart, of Corbin, George Wright, of Louisville, Steve Wright, of Magnolia, and Patricia Wright Sherrard, of Shelbyville.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
