Ralph Petrey

CORBIN — Dr. Ralph D. Petrey, 66, of London, and formerly of Corbin and Cumberland, died Dec. 10, 2011. He was born June 29, 1945, in the coal mining camp of Pruden, Tenn. Dr. Petrey was a 1970 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and a 1974 graduate of the UK Orthodontic Residency Program after spending two years as dental director for the Federal Dental Program for Leslie, Knott, Perry and Letcher counties. Dr. Petrey served the communities of southern and southeastern Kentucky providing dental and orthodontic care for more than 37 years. The legacy of his patient care carries on with his son Joe and partner Dr. John K. Newcomb. Ralph was an avid pilot, classical guitar player, snow skier and he loved the lake. He also loved nothing more than his large gatherings of family and friends for his spectacular Fourth of July show and Christmas gatherings. His love, care and guidance will be greatly missed by his family, friends, employees and patients.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and June Petrey, of Corbin.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Linda; his son, Jason Petrey, of Corbin, son Dr. Joe Petrey (and wife Jamie), of Somerset; daughter, Joellen Petrey Knuckles (and husband Timmy), of London; stepson, Josh Thomas, of London; brothers, John Stanley Petrey (and wife Sandra), of Louisville, K.D. Petrey (and wife Kathy), of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Carl Petrey (and wife Maggie), of Waco, Texas, Dr. Rodney Petrey, of Lexington, Michael Petrey, of Corbin; sister, Jane Bowen (and husband Thomas “Mickey”), of London; and five grandchildren, Austin Petrey, Kendra Petrey, Kyler Petrey, Avah Bleau Thomas and Clay Petrey.

Funeral services will be held at Bowling Funeral Home in London on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2011 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be today (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
