Floyd J. Lawson, of Cumberland Falls Highway, Corbin, departed this life on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Veterans Medical Center in Lexington. He was 84 years, 9 months, and 7 days of age. He was born on Oct. 04, 1928, in Whitley County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Strut and Nora Smith Lawson; brother, Eugene Lawson; sister, Pauline Lester; and half-brother, Glenn Hill.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Helen Lawson, of Corbin; seven children, Sharon Gabbard (Bobby), of London, Karon Lawson Moses, Pam Cornett (David), Shanna Elkins (Stephen), Lloyd A. Lawson (Cathy), Brian Lawson (Sherry), all of Corbin, and Curtis Dean Lawson, of Williamsburg; 10 grandchildren, Regina Hill, Robby Gabbard, Brandon Moses, Bradley Moses, Caleb Lawson, Richard Short, Christy Lawson Thornton, Cody B. Lawson, Tyler Lawson and Trey Lawson; eight great-grandchildren; several half-brothers and sisters; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing; special niece, Marlene Rice; and special nephew, Jim Lawson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Hodge officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Young Cemetery following Military Graveside Honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 88 of Corbin.
