Russell “Delbert” Stephenson, 68, of Corbin, and originally of Wayne, W.Va., passed away, surrounded by his family on Friday, March 19th, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Sidney Stephenson and Emma Lucas Gann. He proudly served our country in the United States Army.
Delbert is survived by his former wife, friend and mother of their four children, Darlene; four daughters, Angela Thompson and her husband Wade, Alice Stephenson, Andrea Queen and her husband Eric, and Amber Raines and her husband Will; three grandchildren, Desiree, Jordan and Luke Kelly; two brothers, Charles Stephenson and Sidney Glen Stephenson; five sisters, Lillian Hensley, Dora Stevens, Eleanor Napier, Genevieve Adkins, Evelyn Stephenson and Charlotte Stephenson; and many loving relatives and friends.
Delbert was a man of many trades and talents. He loved Bluegrass music, and played banjo, guitar and fiddle. He was the inventor of many of his own devices. A member of the Bee Farmer’s Association, he grew and canned his own food and honey. Delbert lived a humble life, loved all his family and friends, and was blessed beyond any measurable wealth.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home in Wayne, W.Va. Burial will follow in the Stephenson Family Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
