Surrounded by his loving family, Claude Everett Hensley, 88, of Gray, passed away Sunday peacefully and painlessly at his home.
He was a member of Stamping Ground Christian Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he proudly served his country in World War II.
Born in Gray, he was the son of the late Robert Boyd Hensley and Mary Alice Phipps Hensley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Claude Hensley Jr. and Robert David Hensley; a grandson, Gary Lee “Chip” Hensley Jr.; a brother, William David Hensley; and a sister, Hazel Maxine Roby.
Survivors include his loving wife Ella Hensley; his first wife, Isabella M. Hensley; four beloved children: Linda S. Welch of Georgetown, Gary Lee Hensley and wife Chuck, of Pioneer, Tenn., Patsy Jean Pettus and husband Jim, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Donald B. Hensley and wife Sheila of Stamping Ground; eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruth Hampton, of Gray, and Shirley Hoffman, of Georgetown, as well as countless friends and other relatives, all who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the W.F. Phipps Cemetery at Gray with military rites by the D.A.V. Chapters 158 and 66. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Hensley, Donald Hensley, Joe Hensley, Glen Drury, Larry Griffin, and Bobby Griffin.
The family of Claude Everett Hensley will receive friends from 6 – 9 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
