Surrounded by her loving family, Virgie McKeehan, 98, of Corbin, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at home. She was the oldest member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church.
Born Oct. 31, 1914, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Thomas Skeen and Margaret Kidd Skeen. In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Siler McKeehan; an infant son, Harold Glenn McKeehan; five sisters: Ruby McKeehan, Maggie Hale, Mary Jane Bird, Alcy Sweeney and Retha Copas; three brothers: the Rev. Louis Skeen, the Rev. John Skeen and Lawrence Skeen.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Jean Cocks and husband David; two granddaughters: Anita Malcolm and husband P.L. and Cynthia Baumgardner and husband Thomas; six great-grandchildren: Kiera Malcolm, Elena Malcolm, Makayla Malcolm, Alexander Malcolm, Julianna Baumgardner and Jasmine Baumgardner, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all who mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton and the Rev. Jeff Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery with Thomas Baumgardner, P.L. Malcolm, Ozene McKeehan, Dean McKeehan, Randall Smith, Darvin Smith, Keith Wyatt and Dennis Lay serving as pallbearers.
The family of Virgie McKeehan will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hart Funeral Home with a tribute delivered by Rev. Leonard Strunk at 7:30 p.m.
