Marlene Smith Thompson, age 54, of Corbin, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at her residence. She was born on May 18, 1958, in Goldsboro, N.C., the daughter of the late J.C. and Barbara Quinn Smith. She is survived by two children: Rondal Jason Morgan, of Georgetown, and Dana Powers and husband, Anthony, of London, six brothers: Vernon Ray Smith and J. C. Smith Jr., both of East Bernstadt, Roger and Ricky Smith, both of Manchester, Glen Smith, of Lancaster, and Jimmy Discon, of Pennsylvania, six sisters: Carla Bradshaw, of North Carolina, Maggie Smith and Ann Pigg, both of Danville, Charlene Witt of East Bernstadt, Vickie Discon and Debbie Kuester, both of Pennsylvania, five grandchildren: Blake, Brooke, Zachary, Tanner and Brennan, four step-grandchildren, plus a host of other friends and relatives to mourn her passing. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by one sister: Darlene Smith and one brother: James Smith.
She was a dental hygienist, a member of New Harvest Community Church and a 14-year member of American Legion Post 88 in Corbin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Smith and Randall Eversole officiating. Burial will follow in the Litton Cemetery at East Bernstadt. Pallbearers will be Brian Turner, Junior Jarvis, Johnny Cornett, Steve Fulmer, Kevin Wilson, Chuck Huff. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Hurst and George Creech.
The family will receive friends at Bowling Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.
