Donald Ray Poynter Sr., 68, of Corbin, passed away Monday Dec. 31, 2012, at the Christian Health Center in Corbin. He was born Jan. 16, 1944, in Detroit, Mich., to the late George Poynter and the late Adelaide Quinlan Poynter. Donald was a member of the 17th Street Christian Church, Hugh Harris Masonic Lodge No. 938, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and Sons of Union Veterans.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janet Pennington Poynter, of Corbin; two children, Donald Ray Poynter Jr., of Corbin, and Donita Hardy (Donny), of Berea; one sister, Mary Scott, of Corbin; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home in Corbin with the Rev. Ronnie Blevins officiating. Following the service he will be laid to rest in the Corinth Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2012, at the O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home, with Masonic Last Rites to be performed by the Hugh Harris Masonic Lodge No. 938 of Corbin.
