Also known by the nickname, Judy, Mrs. Beard passed away Nov. 10, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Peggy Barnum, in Bowling Green. Eula, age 89, was a lifelong resident of the Scott’s Community in Laurel County and a graduate of Lily High in 1943. She was the oldest of three children, born to Dave and Sudie Craig. Eula was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Eulene Ward, in 2011 and her brother, Will Craig, in 2010.
Eula was the widow of Herman Beard, who passed away April 12, 1992. They had one child, Peggy. She and her husband, Rev. Philip Barnum, cared for Eula in their home for the past 10 years. Eula is survived by two grandsons and six great-grandchildren, Stephen, Denise and Berkley Barnum, of Nashville, Tenn., and Michael, Reagan, Helen, Harper, Halle, Henry and Holly Barnum, of Woodburn. Eula is also survived by two nieces, Sharon Ward Caswell, of Lagrange, her husband, Steve, and their children, Jessi, Tyler and Justin, and Willena Craig Steffan, of Fort Worth, Texas, and her son Chris, of Orlando, Fla.
Eula joined the Poplar Grove Baptist Church and was baptized in a nearby farm pond as a young lady. Up until about three years ago, she had attended Virginia Avenue UMC in Louisville with her daughter and son-in-law who pastored the church.
She will be missed by her special friend, Mary Ethel Aurandt, as well as neighbors and cousins. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery following the service at Hart Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Philip Barnum. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
