Jerry Anders, Corbin, KY

CORBIN — Jerry Ray Anders, 78, of Prospect,   lost his battle with cancer but gained his eternal reward on Dec. 31, 2013. Born Sept. 13, 1935, in Corbin, Jerry graduated from Corbin High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University on a baseball Scholarship. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in business administration.

Jerry served his country in the Air Force as an airborne radio operator, where he was also involved in weather reconnaissance and atomic testing.

He enjoyed a distinguished, 30-year career with the Brown & Williamson Corporation, where he developed many good friends and coworkers. Jerry’s skills and talent as an executive led to appointments heading multiple divisions at Brown & Williamson including Purchasing, Premium, U.S. Sales and International Sales.

A long-standing member of Audubon Country Club, Vahalla Golf Club and The Hideout Golf Club (Naples, Fla.), Jerry was also a faithful and dedicated member of Southeast Christian Church and the Bill Beauchamp Home Bible Study Group. He had a great passion for golf which he enjoyed with many good golfing buddies both in Louisville and Naples.

Jerry is preceded in rest by his parents, Ernest and Jessie Anders.

He is survived by June Anders, his wife of 53 years who found a way to care for his every need during his long illness, son John Anders (Amy) and daughter Susan Harover (Tony). Five devoted grandchildren Andrew Harover (Ashton Miller), Matthew Harover (Cassandra Neville), Shannon Harover, Nicholas Anders and Katie Anders.  A sister, Joan Johnson (Fred (deceased)), of Corbin, and a brother, James Kenneth Anders (Peggy), of Alabama, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday Jan. 4, 2014, at Southeast Christian Church; Louisville  with burial to follow in Floydsburg cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home, Louisville
