NIBROC Queen Candidates
‘A Salute to Broadway’
Fifteen young women are competing this year in the 56th annual Miss Nibroc Pageant. The queen and the first and second runners up will receive scholarships from University of the Cumberlands, Union College, Pepsi Cola and Hometown Bank. Contestants will also win prizes given by many local businesses.
This year’s pageant theme is “A Salute to Broadway in Music and Song,” and Dr. Brent Chumbley will be master of ceremonies. The contestants will perform an opening number from the movie “Dream Girls.” Ron Green, and Steven and Kelly Lowe will also provide music, and Elizabeth Hood of Corbin, Corissa Black of Williamsburg and the Gail Frederick Dance Team will perform dance routines.
The pageant begins at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9 in the Betty Hamilton Center for Performing Arts at Corbin High School. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the door. The pageant is sponsored by the Corbin Chamber of Commerce.
2008 Nibroc Queen Candidates
Allyson Lee Hart
Allyson, 18, a senior at Corbin High School, plans to attend EKU and pursue a career in nursing. She is the daughter of Kelvin and Wendy Hart.
Suzanna Leigh Perkins
Suzanna, 17, a senior at Williamsburg High School, plans to pursue a career in cosmetic dentistry. She is the daughter of Dr. Eddie Perkins and Mrs. Theresa Woods.
Melanie Dayne Head
Melanie, 17, a senior at Corbin High School, plans to attend Auburn University and pursue a career in civil engineering. She is the daughter of Donnie and Jayne Head.
Jeni Ann Culver
Jeni, 16, a senior at Whitley County High School, plans to attend Georgetown College and pursue a career in pediatrics. She is the daughter of Dr. Mike Culver and Kim Maiden.
Lara Ashliann Deaton
Ashliann, 17, a senior at Whitley County High School, currently works at the Whitley Pharmacy and plans to pursue a career as an orthodontist. She is the daughter of Larry and Tammy Deaton.
Danielle Nicole Harp
Danielle, 17, a senior at Whitley County High School, plans to attend the University of Kentucky pursuing a pharmacy degree. She is the daughter of Gary and Donna Harp.
Leah Lorraine Worley
Leah, 17, a senior at Whitley County High School, plans to attend Murray State University pursuing a career as a pediatric dentist and photographer. She is the daughter of William and Mari Worley.
Whitney Marie Low
Whitney, 17, a 2008 graduate of Corbin High School, plans to attend EKU with a major in learning and behavioral disorders pursuing a career as a teacher for special needs students. She is the daughter of Rob and Trish Low.
Macy Catherine Begley
Macy, 17, a senior at Corbin High School, plans to pursue a career in pediatrics or dermatology. She is the Daughter of Jim and Susan Begley.
Stephanie Dee Sowders
Stephanie, 16, a senior at Lynn Camp High School, plans to pursue a career as a psychologist and/or social worker. She is the daughter of Pamela and Darrell Sowders.
Courtney Leigh Norvell
Courtney, 16, a senior at Corbin High School, plans to pursue a career in psychology, eventually becoming a psychology professor at a college in Kentucky. She is the daughter of Leah and Patrick Norvell.
Sara Makenzie Grega
Sara, 18, a 2008 graduate of Corbin High School, plans to attend Georgetown College majoring in biology and chemistry pursuing a career in pediatrics or anesthesiology. She is the daughter of Charles and Debra Grega.
Hillary Nicole Lewis
Hillary, 17, a 2008 graduate of Whitley County High School, plans to attend UK Pharmacy School, eventually opening her own retail pharmacy. She is the daughter of Gary and Linda Lewis.
Tara Nicole Epling
Tara, 16, a senior at Barbourville High School, plans to attend EKU pursuing a career as an certified public accountant. She is the daughter of Joyce and Asher Croley.
Whitney Laurel Mills
Whitney, 17, a senior at Knox Central High School, plans to attend college and pursue a career as an orthodontist. She is the daughter of Larry and Kim Mills.
