Toddler’s Wednesday death under investigation

An investigation continues into the Wednesday death of a 2-year-old toddler.

Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird said that at 1:40  p.m. Whitley 911 dispatchers received a call about the toddler — the child was unresponsive.

It was unknown at press time who made that call.

He said that rescue crews responded to the call and transported the toddler to Jellico Community Hospital’s emergency room in Jellico, Tenn.

Bird said the 2-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

“The child’s body will be taken to Frankfort (today) for an autopsy,” Bird said. “We are conducting a death investigation.”

No further details about the death were available at press time.
