Postal worker pleads guilty to stealing

CORBIN —

By John L. Ross / Staff Writer

A postal employee indicted in November pleaded guilty in accordance with an agreement filed in April.

Arnold Bingham was federally indicted for stealing movie DVDs and drugs, according to an indictment filed Nov. 15 in London’s U.S. District Court.

Bingham pleaded guilty to one count of theft of United States mail. He was represented by attorney Lowell Lundy.

As part of the plea agreement, Bingham was sentenced to three years of probation, which begins with four months of home incarceration.

After completion of home incarceration, Bingham will serve six consecutive weekends of intermittent confinement from 6 p.m. Fridays to 6 a.m. Mondays.

He is also ordered to participate in a substance abuse treatment program.

Bingham must also pay a $2,500 fine and $1,726.02 in restitution. Netflix, based in Florida, should receive $724.22 in restitution, while the Veteran’s Administration will get $1,001.80.

Bingham took the movies, which were from Netflix and Blockbuster, while in Knox County from January 2009 through June 22, 2012, the indictment states.

He also took parcels containing drugs from the Veterans Administration. The packages were addressed to people other than Bingham.

Had he faced a jury and been convicted, Bingham could have been handed a maximum prison sentence of five years, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
