It’s now official.
Corbin’s hours for Trick-or-Treating have been set for this Halloween.
The hours were approved by the Corbin City Commission during their regular meeting Monday.
As in previous years, the hours remain the same.
Trick-or-Treating will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, from 3-5 p.m. along Main Street, and from 6-8 p.m. for the rest of the city.
During the short session, commission members approved authorizing City Attorney Bob Hammons to draw up an ordinance, changing the day the Board of Commissioners would meet from the second Monday of each month to the third Monday of the month.
The meetings would be held at 5 p.m.
“The reason is, it’s hard for us to get our financial reports in on the second Monday,” Mayor Williard McBurney said at the meeting held at City Hall.
Approval was also given to renew the lease with the state Department for Juvenile Justice, which lets the department rent office space on the top floor of Corbin City Hall. The rate for renting the spaces this year was $27,811, the same as last year.
Forms were also signed by the city, making official the promotions of Lieutenant James Miller and Lieutenant Rick Baker of the Corbin Police Department. Both men had been approved in July by the commission for their promotions from Sergeants to Lieutenants.
In addition, commission members authorized McBurney to sign settlement documents in regards to a three-vehicle accident involving a city police cruiser and two other cars.
Hammons said the limit of liability was $10,000, and out of the pro-rated pool of money from the liability amount, the damage to the police cruiser came up to $4,113.01.
Among other actions, an adjustment in pay was approved for Keith Henson, one of two maintenance men who works at City Hall. Officials said his pay was not adjusted when he moved over to City Hall from the Department of Parks and Recreation. Henson’s pay was adjusted from $8.25 an hour to $8.75 an hour.
A separate adjustment in pay for Josh Miller and Rick Miracle was also given. The two operate backhoes for the city’s Public Works Department. Both will each get a 25 cent-per-hour adjustment.
Approval was also given to Bobby Abrams as a full-time laborer in the Public Works Department, and the promotion of Leo Enriquez in the Parks and Recreation Department from part-time to full-time status.
Tax refunds were approved to Jacob Kroeker for a total of $458.86 over a five-year period from 2008 to 2012. Robert Barton also got a total tax refund of $200.60 for a two-year period from 2011 and 2012. In addition, a tax refund of $99.66 was approved for Larry Shelley for 2012.
All three received Homestead Exemptions for the refunds.
Before the meeting ended, Mark Eaton, a representative of the South Main Street-20th Street neighborhood, acknowledged Corbin Police and Chief David Campbell on police patrols of the area in recent weeks.
“It’s a huge relief. Just knowing they’re patrolling the neighborhood is a big relief to us. We’re having issues with the homeless shelter being in the neighborhood, but the patrols are a huge relief,” he said.
McBurney announced that the November commission meeting will be moved up a week from the normal time. Because the regular meeting date falls on Monday, Nov. 11 — Veterans Day — next month’s meeting will be the following Monday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. It will also be a special meeting.
