“He just seemed like a normal customer.”

That’s what 20-year-old Subway employee Alex Taylor said Thursday night after she came face to face with more than she ever suspected.

“He was nice. He was friendly, and I was talking to him,” Taylor said. “We went down to the end (of the counter), and he paid for his sandwich.”

But the next moments left Taylor shaken.

“He pulls a gun, and cocks it,” she said, adding that he asked her for the money in the register. “And he’s like, ‘do it now.’”

She said she was shocked.

“I said ‘are you serious?’ because I thought he was just joking,” Taylor said.

But Taylor was getting robbed — she works for the Subway restaurant on the Cumberland Falls Highway adjacent to Bubby’s.

“He said to just put the bills in the bag,” she said. “Then he said that ‘you can keep your tip’ — and (followed that) with ‘you have a wonderful day.’”

She said after he left the restaurant she was just shaking.

“I was kind of in shock and (couldn’t) believe this happened,” Taylor said. “At first I just broke down and cried — I was so glad that my cousin came over.”

She said her cousin, Carlie Parker, was next door at Bubby’s for a show.

“He kept me standing up,” she said. “I tend to pass out.”

She also hopes law enforcement catch him.

“I don’t want anyone else to go through what I went through — it scared the daylights out of me,” Taylor said. “I don’t want anyone else to feel that way.”

Corbin Police Detective William Rose, who leads the investigation, said the robbery occurred just before 6 p.m. Thursday.

“(The suspect) waited in the parking lot until the store was cleared out,” Rose said. “He parked in the corner spot, then came in after the customers left.”

Rose said that at the cash register, “he said to her to put all the money in the bag, then brandished a semi-automatic handgun.”

Rose said an undetermined amount of cash was stolen in the robbery. Taylor was alone working at the restaurant, which is managed by her mother, Linda Taylor, according to Rose.

Taylor was able to give a description of the armed robber.

“He was tall, like 5 (foot) 7 (inches) to six foot,” she said. “He was kind of stocky — chubby. He had a dark, scruffy beard and acne scars. He was wearing dark sunglasses and a dark hat. He had short, dark, curly, wavy hair.”

Detective Rose urged that anyone with any information on this suspect to contact the Corbin Police Department at 606-528-1122 and ask for the detective.
