B’ville man dies after shooting


TIMES TRIBUNE (CORBIN, Ky.)

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

A Barbourville man is dead after he reportedly was shot after he tried to break into a vehicle parked at a home along Morris Lane in Heidrick, according to Kentucky State Police Post 10 — Harlan Public Affairs Officer Trooper Shane Jacobs.

Randy Shane Maybery, 30, fled after he was approached by the homeowner and a neighbor, both of whom were armed, Jacobs said. A short distance later, the neighbor and Maybery fought. The neighbor then shot Maybery, Jacobs said.

The confrontation came after the homeowner had called 911.

Jacobs declined to name the homeowner and the neighbor.

Jacobs department was contacted shortly after midnight by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Maybery was declared dead at the Knox County Hospital by Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins. An autopsy was to be conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s office.

The investigation continues by Kentucky State Police Detective Bryan Johnson, who is being assisted by Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

No arrests had been made as of Friday. The case will be presented to the Knox County Grand Jury.
