Knox deputy shot, Gray man killed Monday

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

A Knox County Sheriff’s deputy was shot late Monday and a Gray man was killed as the deputy responded to a domestic violence complaint, according to Kentucky State Police Post 10 — Harlan Public Affairs Officer Trooper Shane Jacobs.

The shooting happened about 11:52 p.m. when Deputy Brian Hensley arrived at a home on Orleans Circle. Hensley was at the home’s front door when he heard a gunshot. Hensley entered the home and Jeffrey S. Frump, 44, of Gray, fired shots at Hensley. Hensley, who was struck in the leg, went out of the home seeking cover as Frump followed. Once on the front porch, Frump again aimed his weapon at Hensley, who returned fire, fatally wounding Frump.

Hensley was taken by ambulance to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment. His condition was believed to be non-life threatening.

Frump’s body was sent to Frankfort for autopsy.

The case remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Jason York.
