A London man was arrested for driving under the influence after a Sunday crash that injured a woman, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.
The crash happened about 1 a.m. along KY 312, 11 miles south of London. Root said Darrell Sizemore was driving a 1995 Chevrolet pickup east on the highway when he lost control, ran into a ditch, traveled back onto the road, crossed the centerline and struck a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am head on, which caused the car to go off the road and overturn.
The driver of the Grand Am, Megan Patterson, 26, of London, was trapped inside the car. Once she was extricated, Patterson was taken to a landing zone and airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington in serious condition.
Deputy Mikey Ashurst responded to the 911 call and determined Sizemore was under the influence. Sizemore was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, third offense with aggravating circumstances. He was jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
Ashurst continues the investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Keavy Volunteer Fire Department and Kentucky State Police.
