CORBIN — A brush fire raged Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until after 3 p.m. in a field on New Zion Church Road belonging to Dewey Brooks.
According to Rockholds Fire Department Chief Charles Walker, the fire started when a neighbor was burning trash and the fire got out of control.
It took five firefighters from Woodbine Fire and Rescue and five from Rockholds Fire Department to contain the blaze, and about four acres of forest and hay field were destroyed.
No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged. According to Walker, Whitley County is under a red flag warning, meaning that burning is prohibited at any time. This warning is a result of dry, windy conditions that make controlled burns more likely to spiral out of control. Assisting at the scene was the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
