County attorney candidate indicted

Jorjani, wife, mother all charged with tampering with physical evidence

CORBIN — By John L. Ross / Staff Writer

Tampering with physical evidence — that’s the charge levied on a Laurel County indictment handed down Friday, which bears the names of a candidate for office, his wife and a doctor.

David Jorjani, 49, former Knox County attorney and current candidate for same, his wife, Cameo Cima Jorjani, AKA Cameo Skidmore, 35, and his mother, Dr. Jean Mackay, all of Corbin, were all listed on the indictment filed in Laurel County Circuit Court.

The three were all charged with tampering with physical evidence after they allegedly fabricated physical evidence “with the intent that it be used in an official proceeding, or (offered) physical evidence in an official proceeding, (allegedly) knowing said evidence to be fabricated or altered,” according to the indictment.

“Dr. Mackay has practiced medicine in Corbin for over 40 years,” David Jorjani said Friday afternoon. “(She) has an exemplary record of helping the poor and disadvantaged of eastern Kentucky.”

The charges against the three allegedly occurred Aug. 27.

“If Dr. Mackay incorrectly completed or did not file the appropriate documents to Frankfort, (she is) open and ready to comply with any request or any court order,” David Jorjani added.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Jackie Steele could not comment on the case except to confirm the relationship among the three.
