Arrest made for CHS bomb threat

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

An arrest has been made in connection with Wednesday’s bomb threat at Corbin High School that led to the evacuation of the school and the Corbin Area Technology Center, according to Corbin Police Department Public Affairs Officer Major Rob Jones.

The school was evacuated after a staff member found the threat written on a boys bathroom wall that read in part there was a bomb in the school and that it would “burn to the ground,” according to Jones and school officials.

Surveillance video from the hall outside the restroom was provided to the police department and that is how individuals near the restroom about the time the threat was made were identified, Jones said. Subsequent interviews of those individuals led to the positive identification of the student who wrote the threat.

That student, whose identity wasn’t released by police since the student is a juvenile, was cited for terroristic threatening. The student was released to parental custody and will appear in Whitley County Juvenile Court.

Detective Rusty Hedrick continues the investigation. He was assisted by Detective Bill Rose.
