‘Paint The Town Pink’ Saturday

Two-mile run/walk to fight breast cancer

CORBIN — By John L. Ross / Staff Writer

It’s almost time to fight — with paint.

The “Paint The Town Pink” event to fight breast cancer is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday.

Sponsored by Baptist Health Corbin and Baptist Health Family Fitness, the two-mile run/walk “glow run” goal is to raise money for local assistance organizations — the Tri-County Cancer Coalition and the Knox County Cancer Fund.

The Tri-County Cancer Coalition was founded in 1999.

“We are a non-profit organization made up of many health agencies, cancer survivors, cancer patients, and concerned citizens,” states the coalitions’s vision on its website. “We are your friends and neighbors. We are dedicated to providing support, education, and advocacy to those who have experienced cancer or are now experiencing cancer.

“Our vision is to assist cancer patients and survivors in reclaiming their lives. It is our goal to achieve this vision through compassion, commitment, knowledge and support.”

The Knox County Cancer Fund was started by Dr. Andreae Collins and Ray Blair Canady, according to the website’s home page.

More than 300 people have been helped through this fund, the site states, and no one involved in administering the program is paid for their work.

Registration begins 5 p.m. Saturday next to First Baptist Church and Gambrel Collision Center on Laurel Avenue. Race packets may also be picked up at that location.

Registration fees are $25 per runner/walker — $90 for a family of four or more.
