Rescuers search Laurel Lake for missing man

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Rescuers are searching for a 32-year-old Berea man who was last seen Thursday on a pontoon boat on Laurel Lake, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.

Clarence Holmes, 22, was helping people moor their houseboats as a storm approached. He was last seen around 3 p.m. His unoccupied pontoon boat was found about 9 p.m. off Marshes Branch near a small island.

Holmes personal items were found on the pontoon.

A search was conducted, but was called off after nightfall. Root said the search resumed Friday morning.

Waves on the lake were reported to be as high as eight feet during the storm.

Agencies involved in the search include U.S. Forest Service Officer Michael Harrison, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Officer Rich Waite, Conservation Officer Tom Land, Emergency Management Director Abbey Hale, London Laurel County Rescue Squad, and Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County.
