Times-Tribune Staff Report
A Gray man died following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 25E Thursday, according to Sgt. Robert Farley of the Kentucky State Police Post 10-Harlan.
The crash happened just before 5 p.m. as Edward Carter, 78, of Gray was attempting to make a left turn onto KY 830 from U.S. 25E in front of Lynn Camp High School in his 2013 Ford Fiesta. Carter failed to yield right-of-way to Lee Shrout, 67, of Richmond and collided with Shrout’s 2007 Dodge Ram, Farley said.
Carter’s vehicle was struck on the passenger side, and Carter received multiple blunt force injuries. He was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, but died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 1:54 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, by the Fayette County Coroner’s office.
Shrout was uninjured.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be contributing factors to the collision, Farley said. The investigation continues by Trooper Russ Maynard.
Maynard was assisted by West Knox Fire Department, Knox County EMS, and AirEvac.
Funeral arrangements for Carter have been set for 3 p.m. Sunday. Carter’s full obituary appears on Page 6A of this edition.
