A Corbin couple arrested for trafficking in marijuana appeared before Judge Dan Ballou in Whitley Circuit Court Tuesday.

Speed Marcum Tye, 45, and Loretta Tye, 41, were indicted in February. Speed Tye, alleged to be a “mid-level marijuana dealer,” was handed a two-count indictment, which included trafficking in the drug and being a persistent felony offender.

He allegedly had more than six pounds of marijuana in his possession.

Loretta Tye was only indicted on the marijuana charges.

All charges for both suspects were incurred in September 2010.

Both Loretta Tye and Speed Tye are represented by Attorney B.J. Foley.

According to court documents, on Sept. 10, 2010, Speed Tye allegedly sold a half-pound of marijuana to a confidential informant. After his arrest, an additional four ounces were reportedly discovered in his vehicle. Previously that month, Speed Tye was charged with other marijuana sales — charges which led to a search of his Joe Young Road home, where the six-plus pounds of marijuana were discovered, according to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.

Operation UNITE assisted with this investigation.

Both remain free on bond and are scheduled for their next appearance in court June 3.
