Pedestrian struck by intoxicated driver
A Corbin man was arrested Saturday for drinking and driving after he struck a pedestrian with a pickup truck, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.
Richard Peace, 64, was driving south on Hwy. 1223 about 1 a.m. in a 1967 Chevrolet pickup when he struck the man, who is from London.
The pedestrian suffered multiple facial fractures and a broken left leg. He was taken by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to Baptist Health Corbin hospital and later was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Deputy Mickey Ashurst determined Peace was under the influence, so he arrested and charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcoholic beverages and second-degree assault. He was jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
Kentucky State Police Officer Mikey Hamblin assisted at the scene and Ashurst continues the investigation.
B’ville man arrested after marijuana is shipped to him
A Barbourville man was arrested Saturday after it was determined he had about one and a half pounds of marijuana shipped to him, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.
James P. Hembree Jr., 24, was arrested about 10:30 a.m. following an investigation by Detective Jason Back, along with Deputy James Sizemore.
Hembree is charged with trafficking in marijuana. He was jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
