Controlled burn seen from U.S. 25E

KNOX COUNTY — Drivers traveling U.S. 25E between Barbourville and Corbin Friday night may have noticed a building ablaze behind the KCEOC building. They may have also noticed the fire departments were absent from the scene. According to Whitley County residents Cliff Draper and Melanie Draper, they had things under control. Cliff Draper said they had an agreement with the homeowner to tear down the home to salvage materials. They have worked on the home for some time, and were working to complete the teardown. The fire Friday night was a controlled burn, and the two planned to stay with the burning wreckage until the fire burns out. They said they were prepared in case things got out of hand — they had water and fire extinguishers at the ready.
