Staff Report

A Williamsburg man was arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder after he stabbed a woman 16 times, according to Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird.

Anthony Potter-Spicer, 30, is also charged with resisting arrest.

The arrest came after a Sky View Drive resident called police before 11 p.m. and reported an assault. The caller had witnessed a fight between a man and a woman and had tried to assist the woman, who had been stabbed. The man fled on foot and police quickly identified him as Potter-Spicer.

Potter-Spicer also had a warrant from another agency, according to Whitley County Detention Center records.

The victim was treated by Whitley County EMS and then was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Officer Brandon Prewitt and his canine partner, Rico, tracked Potter-Spicer to an area between the Cumberland River, George Hays Road and South Second Street. Whitley County 911 dispatchers assisted by having his general location confirmed by the service provider of the cell phone he was using.

He was booked into the Whitley jail early Saturday morning, jail records indicate.

Bird said the victim remained hospitalized as of late Sunday in critical condition in intensive care.

It isn’t known at this point what prompted the stabbing.

The incident remains under investigation by Bird’s department.
