Final Block Party of the summer this Friday

By John L. Ross / Staff Writer

The city of Williamsburg will be a little bit like Margaritaville from 8-11 p.m. Friday for the final Block Party of the summer of 2013.

The party is at Bill Woods Park.

The Lunar Beach House band will perform, and the group is well-known for its renditions of Jimmy Buffett music.

Touted as “the Premiere Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band,” the six-piece group has played in several venues, including festivals, corporate events, colleges and night clubs.

Members include Terry Vaught, Brian Cleveland, Doug Payne, Mike Corley, Mike Smith and Mike Clover.

“We perform only Jimmy Buffett songs,” states the band’s website.

Some of those songs include “Pirate Looks at 40,” “Southern Cross,” “Coconut Telegraph,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” and “Last Mango in Paris.”

However, the website also announces the group was working on its first CD in 2011.

According to Nannie Hays, main street manager, besides the evening with Buffett, there will be something “a little different” for this next Block Party.

“We are having a table-decorating contest,” she said. “There’s a theme, and there will be first- and second-place prizes for the best-decorated tables.”

There is no fee to enter — all that is asked is to call and reserve a table.

“People need to call and reserve their table,” Hays said. “We will only bring tables for the people who have called in advance.”

The theme for the tables is either the beach, or Buffett, she added.

To reserve a table for the decorating contest, contact 606-549-0530 by noon Friday.

The Block Party kicks off at 8 p.m. Friday.

“This is a good, family experience,” Hays said. “Just bring your lounge chairs and blankets and be ready for a night of great music and entertainment.”

Good crowds are expected again.

“We expect a good crowd,” she added. “A really good crowd — we not only get our local people, but people come from Corbin, London and Barbourville to attend this event. Just come on out and have a good time.”
