Times-Tribune Staff Report
A woman was taken to the hospital Sunday after she was fished out of a Laurel County pool where she had been swimming nude, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.
Laurel County Deputies Larry Parrott, Mikey Ashurst and Tyler Morris responded to a southern Laurel County hotel on the report that a woman was causing a “major disturbance.”
After arriving at the hotel, deputies spotted the nude woman in the outside picnic area where she was ripping the screens out of the poolside windows.
Deputies issued commands to the woman who ran from them. The deputies then told her if she did not stop and comply with their orders, they would use a Taser on her.
The woman stopped, turned around and began to raise her hands before she jumped into the motel swimming pool where she floated on her back unresponsive.
“With quick thought,” Root said Parrott grabbed a rescue pole and dragged the woman to the side of the pool where Ashurst and Morris retrieved her from the water.
The woman was treated at the scene by EMS and transported to Baptist Health Corbin.
Through investigation, deputies were able to determine that she had checked into the hotel earlier in the day and “had been acting strange all day,” Root said.
Prior to the arrival of deputies, the woman had allegedly left an iron on top of some plastic in her room which started a small fire. She had also thrown all of the tables, chairs and artificial trees along with many other items into the swimming pool.
According to the sheriff’s report, there were no signs of drug or alcohol use by the woman and “no reasoning for her actions was given at the time of the incident.”
Assisting at the scene was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel Co., West Knox Fire Department and the Laurel County Rescue Squad.
