W’burg man arrested, accused of assaulting his stepfather

CORBIN — By John L. Ross / Staff Writer

A reported domestic dispute led to the arrest of a Williamsburg man Tuesday.

According to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell, Brandon L. Smith, 29, of Cripple Creek Road, was booked into the Whitley County Detention Center Wednesday.

Smith now faces charges of second-degree assault through domestic violence after he allegedly attacked his stepfather.

Harrell explained that around 10 p.m., Deputy Joe Prewitt and Sgt. Brian Lawson responded to the Cripple Creek residence to investigate a domestic disturbance complaint.

Harrell said Smith was seen walking away from the home. Prewitt and Lawson learned Smith allegedly slashed his stepfather, Eugene Patrick, with a small kitchen knife during a verbal argument Smith was reportedly having with his mother.

Smith was transported to Baptist Health Corbin for injuries he received during the alleged fight with Patrick. He was treated and released.

JailTracker records do not indicate a bond has been set for Smith, but it does list he also faces a nonpayment of fines charge. He remains jailed at the detention center.
