A man traveling with family from South Carolina after his brother’s graduation from the Marines was found dead the day before Thanksgiving in the swimming pool of the Cumberland Inn in Williamsburg.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley said Zachary Richard, 25, was en route to Ohio when he and his family stopped at the hotel for the night.
Croley said he was called to the hotel after 10 that night, and found Richard in the pool.
The investigation does continue, but it is not known if or when an autopsy would be scheduled.
Croley said his death will likely be considered an accident.
While signs at the pool indicate diving is not permitted, Croley said it appears the 6 foot, 4 inch tall man may have dove into the pool anyway.
The dive caused head injuries, the coroner said, which led to his death.
The deepest point in the hotel pool is five feet, Croley added. The pool was closed during the investigation at the hotel, but it has since been reopened, he said.
