Laurel tailgate thief pleads guilty

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

The man arrested just over a week ago for stealing tailgates from various pickup trucks in Laurel and neighboring counties, has pled guilty to the charge.

Travis North, 25, of John R. Jones Road, London, made the guilty plea Tuesday in Laurel District Court to receiving the stolen property.

He remains jailed in the Laurel County Detention Facility in London.

Last Tuesday, April 29, North was arrested and charged by Laurel County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Josh Scot and Billy Madden with receiving stolen property under $10,000 in regards to seven reported stolen tailgates.

North’s guilty plea came a day after Scott recovered seven tailgates from assorted brands of pickup trucks.

Scott made the recovery Monday, finding the tailgates in both Laurel County and in neighboring counties, and had been allegedly been sold to auto parts businesses.

Both Detective Scott and Transport Officer Eric Smith recovered the tailgates.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root reported the tailgates were suspected of being stolen from the Laurel County area, during a recent rash of thefts.

Detective Scott continues his investigation.
