A London man charged with first-degree sexual abuse has been found not guilty by a jury in a Laurel County Circuit Court trial Monday.

Glen Alford, 48, was accused of sexually abusing a child born in 1996.

Alford was charged with eight counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, one for each year in the period 2001-2008 in which the abuse was alleged to have occurred.

Alford’s lawyer, Lucas Joiner, opened with the statement that the victim could possibly be lying about the sexual abuse. Joiner said the victim had reason to lie about being sexually abused, and that the victim greatly disliked Alford and claimed the victim was known to be a liar and manipulator.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Harold Dyke presented the jury with specific instances of abuse and stated Alford was known to have a temper. He also claimed Alford sat silently when he was accused of the abuse.
