RV, truck crash downs pole, closes highway

CORBIN — By Jeff Noble / Staff Writer

A two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on the Old Barbourville Highway (KY 1232) near East Wyrick Street in Corbin involved a recreational vehicle, a truck, and snapped a power pole in three places.

No one was injured.

The highway was shut down for at least four hours after the crash.

It happened around 5 p. m. and involved a Newmar Dutch Star RV with Florida license plates, and a silver Dodge Ram 2500 truck. According to Corbin Police, the truck, driven by David Harris, 63, of Corbin, was going east on KY 1232, away from Corbin, when the RV, driven by Christopher Blanton, 27, from Laurel County, an employee of Valley RV in Corbin, was coming back from having tires put on the vehicle. Police said the RV pulled out from East Wyrick Street and turned left onto KY 1232. The RV either had some mechanical failure or driver error, crossed the center line, hit the truck, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole, stopping the RV.

Crews from Kentucky Utilities worked on making repairs to the pole, which is owned by AT&T and leased to KU for electrical lines.

As of 9 p.m. Friday night, the highway remained closed.

Ptl. Mike Bisschop of the Corbin Police Department was the investigating officer. He was assisted at the scene by Corbin Police, the Corbin Fire Department, the West Knox Volunteer Fire and Rescue and other first responders.
