Woman riding a horse causes crash

A London woman riding her horse on Ky 1956 after dark caused a crash on Tuesday night, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.

Deputy Robbie Grimes, along with Senior Sgt Greg Poynter investigated the crash on which occurred four miles west of London around 9 p.m.

Rhonda Messer, 42, was riding a horse on the road in the dark, which caused a collision with a Jeep Cherokee east bound on Ky 1956.  Messer told deputies she had just gotten the horse shod, and was riding it home nearby. Messer was thrown off the horse and into the windshield on the passenger side of the Jeep. She was airlifted from the scene to UK Medical Center in Lexington for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep. Kristopher Engle, 32, of London, was not injured. However, his wife Shannon Engle, 39, who was a passenger, was transported by Ambulance Inc Of Laurel County to St. Joseph Hospital of London for treatment of serious injuries.

Colony Fire Department, and London –Laurel County Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.

Three arrested on bench warrants

Three people were arrested in Laurel County on Wednesday morning on bench warrants according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputy James Sizemore arrested Brittney Branstutter, 21 of London, on Fisherman Cove Road. She was charged on a bench warrant for leaving the scene of an accident. Also arrested on Fisherman Cove Road was: Daniel Grimm, 23 of London. He was charged with a bench warrant for theft by unlawful taking.

Sizemore also arrested Jacob Johnson, 21, of East Bernstadt, on Victory Road and charged him with a bench warrant for possession of marijuana. Johnson was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a needle was found in his pants pocket during his arrest. All three were jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Meth arrest in Laurel County

Four people in Laurel County were arrested on meth charges following an investigation by the sheriff’s department, according to Sheriff John Root.

Detective Jason Back, along with Deputy James Sizemore, and Deputy Robbie Grimes arrested three people on Evans Farm Road, on Tuesday evening around 2:30 p.m. and a fourth person at 4:30 p.m. after executing a search warrant at the residence and finding components to manufacture methamphetamine, according to the arrest report.

Cristal A. Chestnut, 42, of London, was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. Steven D. Cawood, 44, of East Bernstadt was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and being a persistent felony offender. Brian K. Engle, 45, of London was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and

Valerie M. Young, 31, of London was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, persistent felony offender, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, as a quantity of methamphetamine was located in her possession, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence, and other traffic violations.

All except for Brian K. Engle were jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center. Engle, however, developed chest pains during processing and was transported by Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County at deputies request to St. Joseph Hospital London for possible treatment.

Corbin man charged with assault

A Corbin man was charged with assault after he assaulted his girlfriend after picking her up from jail, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root. Deputy Tyler Morris responded to a complaint that a woman who was picked up from jail by her boyfriend was assaulted on the way back to their residence on U.S. 25 , south of London, early Monday morning around 1:30 a.m.

Deputy Mikey Ashurst arrived on U.S. 25, spoke to the victim and learned that she was reporting that her boyfriend had been drinking, and that he grabbed her by the arm and jerked her from the vehicle. Morris, along with Sgt. Brett Reeves, Deputy Shane Rice, and Deputy Kevin Berry went to the residence on Camp Ground Road, learned Victor S. Vulgamore, 40, had been drinking alcohol and had grabbed his girlfriend’s arm, jerking her from the vehicle. Vulgamore was arrested was charged with fourth-degree assault and was jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
