Two children were injured in a crash along Hwy. 80 in Laurel County Tuesday morning, according to Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Steven Douglas.
The crash happened about 8 a.m. as Stephanie Winberry, 34, of London, who was driving a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, attempted to cross Hwy. 80 at its intersection with Hwy. 1535. Winberry collided with a 1996 Peterbuilt tractor trailer driven by William G. Rice, of Van Lear.
A 5-year-old in Winberry’s car was ejected. The child was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.
Another child, 8, was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph London hospital.
Hwy. 80 was closed for about two hours while rescuers and police worked.
Alcohol and drug use are not suspected factors in the crash. It is believed at least one of the children wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
Assisting on scene were CVE Ofc. Duffy Sutton, KSP Troopers Lloyd Cochran, Brandon Creekmore and TFC. Don Trosper. Officer Steven Douglas continues the investigation.
