Sen. Mitch McConnell and Rep. Hal Rogers will both speak at a “Healthcare Forum” at St. Joseph London hospital from 4 to 5 p.m today (Tuesday).
It is the only time that Rogers and McConnell will be in the area together to speak about health care, according to Saint Joseph London Public Affairs Director Sharon Hershberger.
“Basically, it’s the first time they have spoken together about health care and we felt it would be a fitting topic for the hospital to host,” Hershberger said, adding that the event is open to the public.
“It will be an opportunity for the public to come out and speak to the congressman and senator about the upcoming health care reform,” Hershberger said.
London Mayor Troy Rudder and Laurel County Judge Executive David Westerfield will be on site to welcome McConnell and Rogers at the event.
“From a community standpoint, it’s always good to let the folks in Washington know how things are going and this is a prime opportunity for local people of Laurel County to do just that,” said David McArthur, with KentuckyOne Health. He added that the hospital was “happy to host such an event.”
Sometime during or after the forum, the floor will open for the senator and congressman to answer questions from the public.
The healthcare forum will be held at the hospital, which is located at 1001 Saint Joseph Lane, London. It will be on the second floor waiting platform.
